Pinks All in a Row

Posted on June 08 2020

This spring, decorate yourself and your closet with shades of pink. How lovely to see them all lined up, from light to dark. Jane’s Vanity curates your pinks. To get into the pink frame of mind, one might begin by studying the Gallery restaurant at Sketch in London, considered the most Instagrammable restaurant in town.

Deep Dive

Posted on June 06 2020

Picture deepest navy silk. Its depth gives it mystery. Its sheen gives it life. It is not only a nice alternative to black, but also a partner of black. Like its wearer, dark blue is interesting, open to new ideas. Jane’s Vanity can’t resist it.

The Color of Cognac

Posted on June 05 2020

I have a rose that is the color of cognac. It is an old-fashioned one, with raggedy petals. Its deep first shade will turn to a pinky yellow. But, for a day, its mellow topaz is unforgettable. And reminds me of the rich golden silks from Jane’s Vanity.

Merle Noir for Jane’s Vanity

Posted on May 30 2020

Amidst the rolls of lace and silks in our new atelier surrounded by the blooming Dutch flower fields, I would like to take a moment to reflect back on our journey so far that have led me to the incredible collaboration between my brand, Merle Noir Lingerie, and Jane’s Vanity.

Tell Me a Tale

Posted on May 28 2020

British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka’s poignant, jazzy “Tell Me A Tale” is an inspiration. For life, for lingerie. “Tell me a tale that always was, Sing me a song that I’ll always be…” Get in the mood to be your true self, in sensuous pieces from Jane’s Vanity that you feel can “turn me around, so that I can be, everything I was meant to be…”

To Go

Posted on May 27 2020

Do the dinner dash in charming loungewear from Jane’s Vanity. In Portland, we are finding ways to social distance, yet support our neighborhood restaurants. Interesting food is just a call ahead. Then, as if on a fashion runway, we stroll down the street (right down the middle) to pick it up. What shall it be tonight? Here we imagine archetypical PDX restaurants/bars/foodcarts (don’t look these up) and appropriate JV attire.

Friend of Jane’s Vanity: c. l. bigelow

Posted on May 20 2020

“Art is the lifeline.” Amidst the international COVID crisis, these words of artist and sculptor c. l. bigelow stand out. Right now we see art all around us: in music, on the sidewalk, in the making of a homemade mask. It is unstoppable. And in these times, it is relevant and reassuring to speak to an artist who is also a friend of Jane’s Vanity.

A Surprise

Posted on May 15 2020

Social isolation doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate. Birthdays are happy in a new way. Non-occasions offer festive possibilities. Jane’s Vanity is our party place. Breakfast at JV

Posted on May 03 2020

In Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, our girl Holly Golightly has just one dress, but knows how to turn it into a wardrobe. Black, of course. Almost a character in the book. Sometimes a dress comes along that could inspire a novella. Jane’s Vanity has found such a wonder.

A Masculine Perspective

Posted on May 02 2020

When one considers who might bear the happy title of “Friend of Jane’s Vanity,” one should remember to include men. It is fascinating to imagine who they might be. We found one who was willing to answer a few questions. Here are his thoughts: on shopping at the original JV bricks and mortar store, and on the delightful topic of lingerie.

Freestyle

Posted on April 30 2020

As we isolate, we notice that styles are changing all around. Trips to the grocery store are now the perfect chance to experiment with one’s garments. Face masks may obscure one’s rhinestone earrings, but can be freeing in their own way. What might Jane’s Vanity suggest for daily distancing? Pajamas, darlings!

Bullet Bra Phenom

Posted on April 27 2020

Could it be? Is it back? The answer is yes. Jane’s Vanity loves the look of the mid-century bullet bra. With a little French spin, JV will have you loving it too.

Let’s Do Lunch

Posted on April 26 2020

“Let’s do lunch.” Sometimes this is a suggestion for a club sandwich and a good chat. But, it might be an invitation of a different sort. One that is light on food, let’s say, but delicious nevertheless. Whatever is on the menu, layer in a lovely little chemise, selected by the lingerie gourmets at Jane’s Vanity.

The Missing Link

Posted on April 25 2020

A single item can transform your closet. For example, a fresh, smooth layering top. Its just-right neckline complements your accessories as well as your cardigans. Its elegant materials and pretty details dress up your basics. Jane’s Vanity offers a lovely assortment of this transformative piece that will be your “missing link.”

The Language of Flowers

Posted on April 24 2020

Have you noticed that your loungewear is in bloom? Spring beckons as you slip into Jane’s Vanity’s latest floral prints. And consider the language of flowers. What is it that these lovely blooms are whispering to you?

Dream Tea

Posted on April 18 2020

During our extended reverie at home, you may find yourself staring out the window, all afternoon. So, make it special. Brew a pot of smokey tea, and drift along to your inner soundtrack. While, of course, wearing beautiful loungewear from Jane’s Vanity.

A Nice Way to Say Hello

Posted on April 17 2020

Greet your loved one each day with a smile and a little surprise. In this stay-at-home world, it is pure solidarity to trot out your cheeriest garments to wish buongiorno, bonjour, and hi there darling. Jane’s Vanity has some delightful ways to make your morning sing.

Accent on Now

Posted on April 15 2020

Accessorizing takes on a new importance in the age of teleconferencing with Zoom. After one creates the perfect “set,” one must create the perfect personal look...from the shoulder up, anyway. One is fortunate to have Jane’s Vanity in the wings, ready to add that special touch. A scarf will do the trick.

Desert Princess

Posted on April 12 2020

It is spring in the desert. You may be cooped up at home for now, but, with a bit of imagination, you can travel. Take a closer look at the images on your screen-saver. Isn’t that you, a high desert drifter, on an early morning canyon stroll? You are wearing one of the new silks from Jane’s Vanity in subtle southwest colors, accessorized by the big blue sky of the dreamy West.

Celia

Posted on March 29 2020

How to become an icon? Just be yourself. London graphic designer Celia Birtwell appears in many of David Hockney’s works of art, not because of her glamour or traditional beauty, but because she was his friend, she made him laugh, he liked her style. Their closeness comes through in his romantic pencil portraits. As does the languid mood of Swinging London from the 1970s, epitomized by Celia’s vintage lingerie. Celia would love the Old Hollywood styles from Jane’s Vanity. So will you.

Ahead of the Curve

Posted on March 28 2020

It may appear to the world that you are wearing your usual mix of vintage and classic clothing. Cute and funky, you blend right in. But, actually, what you are wearing is totally WOW. It just may not show. When you wish to dare the new and striking, lingerie is an excellent way to do so. The Jane’s Vanity reconnaissance team is out scouting the territory. Rely on them to bring you the most intriguing new lingerie possibilities.

Easy Street

Posted on March 27 2020

Ease is an important aspect of the finest loungewear. It is the essence of luxury: a light touch of silk, a pocket, a billowy shape. Designed to be both comfortable and glamorous, such garments suggest a slightly slouchy approach to life. They slow us down and give our walk a new sway. Try some.

A little escape is good for the soul. Try a fantasy adventure, right there at home. Imagine yourself in the starring role. Jane’s Vanity provides suitable attire. Jane’s Vanity sends love and kisses and the most fabulous ways to look great while staying at home.

Posted on March 25 2020

The dress code says casual. Your heart says no, no, no! Something more interesting, s’il vous plait. Think Paris after hours: a small cabaret, you just right in jeans, jacket, and that special piece from Jane’s Vanity. Let’s get specific. Recently returned from Paris, JV’s Emily Tate shows the way.

Black Panties

Posted on March 23 2020

The ultimate bare essential, black panties are style core. What would we do without them? Corine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of French Vogue, is quoted as saying that Parisian style is to wear a trench coat with nothing underneath. But, wouldn't a hidden pair of JV black panties be more fun?

Khaki Thoughts

Posted on March 23 2020

In Spring, one’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of...khaki. A great little neutral, its tropical roots recall the yellow-saffron dust of India. Whether tan, tobacco, or leaning into olive drab, the earthy tones of khaki always look right. Suitable for uniforms, safaris, Hollywood movies, and Bermuda shorts. Let your lingerie and loungewear join the fun.

Conversation

Posted on March 22 2020

Long before the photograph came into existence, intimate group portrait paintings were an important part of 18th and 19th century upper class English life. You’ve seen the variations, from those of Thomas Gainsborough forward to David Hockney and Kehinde Wiley. It is called the Conversation Group. Imagine how your Jane’s Vanity collection might inform such a private scene.

Nostalgia

Posted on March 21 2020

Nouveau

Posted on March 07 2020

Inhabit the Parisian world of Art Nouveau, the architectural and decorative style so essential to the city’s character. Over a century after the creation of Art Nouveau, the vitality lingers in Paris and all over Europe. Look around for its sinuous, flowing shapes and unapologetic embrace of nature: at a Paris Metro entrance or in the interior design of your little hotel. Match its energy and passion with your own evocative garments from Jane’s Vanity. Then, take a Parisian stroll...

Talented

Posted on March 01 2020

As British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo* notes, “It’s always nice to dazzle.” She is not speaking of sparkling clothing, but rather of her incredible voice. JV garments have dazzle and sparkle. Unleash them, as you display your own hidden talents. As you consider your best skills, think BOLD.

Manhattan

Posted on February 29 2020

Rodgers and Hart wrote the song “Manhattan” for a Broadway musical in 1925. The lyrics provide a tongue-in-cheek travelogue for two poor kids who can’t afford a vacation from town. The song has been a standard for almost 100 years. And it inspires us to take an imaginary trip to Old New York, dressed in JV’s finest. Songstress Lee Wiley might provide accompaniment

Rendez-vous

Posted on February 09 2020

A single word can set the stage: rendezvous gives an uptick to any appointment. Derived from the French second person plural imperative, it translates as “get yourself to…(a certain place).” Sounds inviting. Better dress for it. In something equally suggestive from Jane’s Vanity. Destination? Romance.
