The Anatomy of a Date
The word date comes from the Latin “data,” which means “given.” It was inscribed on Roman correspondence, along with day and year, then given to a messenger to deliver. Long ago, English picked up this handy word to mean "when." Not until the 1890s was it also used to describe a liaison. Later stil, it became a verb or a reference to a person. In other words, dating can mean a lot of things. Jane’s Vanity sorts it all out.
You could have a date: Fill up the calendar with coffee dates, excursions with friends, dates with yourself, dates with your dog. Be ready for anything in charming camp shirts of silk/cotton blend from Violet & Wren. Choose the navy Queen of the Night with cactus flowers or the Yuma Vine patterned with hand-painted turquoise and orange tropical vines.
You could be a date: Do we sense nerves? A first date? Feel relaxed and pulled-together in a Dana Pisarra top from Italy. For summer, let it be a Sec Silk Camisole in Smoke or Bordeaux. The ultra-stretchy ribbed fit is accented by scrolls of embroidery at its v-neck. As autumn approaches, opt for either the Blue Eden Cashmere Silk Top with embroidered insets at sleeves and hem, or the Bordeaux Rib Silk Top with similar insets and soutache detailing. Dana styles make a perfect transition from work to play.
You could be dating: Sounds serious. In that case, you’ll require some pretty lingerie. May we suggest a little camisole set in a saturated color? Gilda & Pearl offer the Ophelia Emerald Silk Set trimmed in black and gold French eyelash lace. Vannina Vesperini keeps it simple and sultry with the Burgundy Silk Camisole Set.
You could save the date for a date with your date: Hurray, an event. Time to dress up. It’s easy with a treasure such as the Athena Blouse from Olivia Von Halle. Wear it as a top with matching removable camisole underneath. Or, without the camisole, let it become a sheer and dressy jacket. Made of embroidered silk organza, its retro seaming and puff sleeves give a nod to Old Hollywood. Available in Muse (white) or Luna (black).
