Denim & Lace

We once read of a transplanted New Yorker, now living in California, who tried to explain to her mother the West Coast obsession with jeans: “It’s 24/7.” The daughter’s concession to East Coast visits was a stylish blazer. But that was it. As “Jeans Snobs” ourselves, we get it. Jeans are our confidence–and our passion. The search is never-ending for that perfect pair. Having found the current love object, we turn to Jane’s Vanity for what to love on top.
The top is all-important, because with jeans, as so much else, proportion is everything to our look. So, we begin by tucking in a little rib-knit undergarment, to wear alone or as a first layer. Italian knitwear house Boglietti offers a lovely new assortment of camisoles in a variety of colors and macramé laces. For a paired-down variation, Japanese brand Aromatique brings the greatest care and craft to their streamlined camisoles, tops, and bodysuits.
From Ibiza, where they know from low-slung and jeans-all-day, comes another top idea from FrancesKa: the Chiara Corset, crafted from black denim with beautiful black lace appliqués. Hitting at upper hip, it is designed to be worn as outerwear (feel the sun on your shoulders), or, more casually, over a tee.
And leather? To add a little rock and roll to your jeans and camisoles, JV has discovered cropped leather shrugs and tops from the artisan brand Zambak in Istanbul. Cheery patterns of leather appliqués grace backgrounds of black netting in the Flat Leaf Top and Shrug, the Rosalinda Top, and the Daisy Leather Shrug and Jacket. Light, flattering, and easy, these tops will become your new obsession.
From the West Coast, Jane’s Vanity wishes you Happy Trails, cowgirls!
