Lovely Little Knots

Get “in touch” with JV’s latest: embellished camisoles and tops from Italian knitwear house Boglietti. Feel their rib-knit warmth, indulge in their subtle colors, and flatter yourself with their airy macramè necklines!

Macramè, you ask? Why yes, but not the bulky sort. This macramé is exquisite machine-made knotted lace of depth and complexity. It recalls the technique of hand knotting that was brought to Europe from the Middle East centuries, perhaps millenia, ago. It caught on with artisans, sailors on long voyages, and as a pastime for court ladies. It continues to intrigue. Boglietti’s mesmerizing lace is as varied as your moods. Perfect to elevate basics, or to mystify on its own.

Each of these feather-weight wool and silk pieces is named for a woman. There is Babila, who brings dressy to daytime with a black high-neck camisole. Her embroidered “illusion” neckline would be great under a jacket.

And Bridget, who would wear her misty grey camisole as a travel companion. So versatile, especially with its tonal neckline insert of delicate dimensional floral macramé.

Bridget also inspires a long sleeve top, in either grey or black, with graceful macramé that marches across the bosom, from shoulder to shoulder.

Her cousin Brigida, is a bit of a renegade. Her macrame is spidery and hip, all the more so in a color called Carmella (wine red) that gives you a camisole to both wear and treasure.

Then there is Bianca, who doesn’t mind a plunging neckline. Her long sleeve top, in smoky heather knit, is accented by a deep tonal insert of sophisticated open-work coils.

And, finally, Briana, whose lace is both folkloric and commanding. For balance, it prances out to the shoulders of this black long sleeve top.

Spring is coming. Your wardrobe is almost ready. But you need a little “something.” Let it be Italian macramé from Jane’s Vanity.
