Welcome, Purple

On the color wheel, purple rests between passionate red and icy blue. As the wheel turns from raspberry to darkest grape, provocative possibilities emerge. Jane’s Vanity welcomes a new range of purple, especially suited to sumptuous fabrics and long winter shadows.

Brit designer Emma Harris has the knack for luscious purples. The newest collection recalls the deep Crayola purple of our youth. Who knew then that it would look so great with black French Lace? Or as flirty little pajamas? Never mind. We know now. The insouciant Clara Pajamas, with their pedal-pusher length and lace-trimmed pockets, would be perfect companions for a nightcap at the hotel bar or a moonlit walk on the beach. Harris offers cover with the matching Clara Smoking Jacket. In private, the Jacket looks great by itself, or with the Clara Chemise. Any of these pieces would make the most stunning gift.

And then there is the Eos Aubergine Lingerie Set from Karolina Laskowska. Commissioned by JV, its lilac and eggplant-colored embroidered lace comes from an irreplaceable “deadstock” remnant originally created by fabled designer Sophie Hallette. The result is deliciously cheery and over-the-top, with bold details that are all Laskowska’s own. Another unforgettable gift.

Greek designer Stelios Koudounaris inspires us with his full-length wine-dark Velvet Halter Neck Dress. This elegant column features cut-in shoulders, a belted waist, and high front slit. Let this festive color be your smoldering alternative to basic black.

JV purple has just the right attitude: a bit surprising, seductive, even ironic. Like a wink that you wear.
