The “No Luggage” Look
First of all, the single outerwear composition had to be right. Not versatile, but perfect in itself. So, we chose to build the look around Zambak’s Daisy Jacket. A bit formal, its leather decorations on sheer black tulle gave us swagger at the airport and protection in the city. Its light netting also provided some natural AC. Under it, we wore Gilda & Pearl’s Voyage Slip Dress, appropriately named, in black crepe de chine adorned with a tiny seashell print. Aromatique provided the bare essentials with their Triangle Bralette Set and Rib Silk Half Slip, in black. Platform sandals.
Which left us plenty of room in the carryall (even with all of those 3 oz. bottles). And how did we choose to fill it? With Gilda & Pearl’s Golden Hollywood Silk Pajamas in leopard print. Its jacket was modest and cozy when necessary, and switchable for the bralette top for sleeping on warm nights. The set could also double for a pool coverup, because it is never a bad idea to pack a swimsuit.
This simple yet sophisticated attire was comfortable and road-friendly. It saw us through formal occasions, strolls around town, lunches and dinners out, unexpected events, and private time at the hotel. Silk is a good traveler. And our ribbed silk underthings made laundering a cinch. Any wrinkles for the dress were quickly smoothed by hanging it in the bathroom while we indulged in a steamy shower.
Case closed. Well, almost. Because we found this experiment so educational. It taught us that we like traveling light. So handy at Security and for boarding the plane. Once arrived, no confusion about what’s hiding in the packing cubes. Because there weren’t any! And it provided food for thought. How might we improve this arrangement in the future? Possibly with the purchase of a portable power bank for the phone. And a single stunning pair of dangling fresh-water pearl earrings from Gisel B.
