Be inspired by Instagram for its celebration of the unexpected visual moment. For example, check out the art installations at the Parisian department store Le Bon Marche Rive Gauche. In the past, they have used their enormous escalator atrium to display such things as a squadron of hot-air balloons, giant bird lanterns, light displays. For early 2018, they commissioned Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich to create an optical illusion for the Andree Putman-designed escalators themselves. His work, “Sous Le Ciel” (Under the Sky),* seemed to twist the escalators into a giant knot while, above, changing cloud formations were projected onto large screens beneath the store’s frosted glass ceilings. So evocative, so festive.
