Millefleurs

Barack Obama’s new official portrait by Kehinde Wiley puts me in mind of the historic tradition of floral backgrounds. Long ago, at the Museé de Cluny on Paris’s Left Bank, I became so transfixed by the floral tapestries at the entrance, that the museum closed before I got any further. The freshness of the colors and design reached out to me across the centuries. It is a thrill to see millefleur used in this new work of art to such beautiful effect.

Jane’s Vanity offers a garden of floral inspiration. Create a portrait-ready world with your own backdrop of blossoms. The Yana Floral Bustier from the French lingerie house Cadolle gives an opulent nod to art history.  Morpho + Luna bring a modern twist to dark florals with the American Western styling of their Agatha Silk Blouse. And the ruby red paisley of Olivia Von Halle’s Lila Yasmine Silk Pajamas recalls the romance of The Lady and the Unicorn tapestries

The tiny patterns of menswear fabric echo millefleurs backgrounds too. Take a cue from Derek Rose’s Otis Fleur de Lys Silk Twill Men’s Pajamas.  Wear your own mesmerizing version: Olivia Von Halle’s Lila Amity Silk Pajamas. Don’t forget the matching sleep mask.

Wear a thousand flowers from Jane’s Vanity!
