Lingerie Lovers

Almost everyone said, “I’ve always loved lingerie.” Many mentioned that their first wearing of pretty underthings represented a transition from childhood to womanhood, even at a very young age.
A favorite such story is of being bribed by one’s mother, at age two, to give up diapers in favor of little panties with derriere entirely covered in rows of lace. Job done!
Emily T. recalls, at age 15, her unescorted trip to Portland’s Meier & Frank to purchase her first garter belt. This triumph comes to mind as we admire the recent arrival of pretties from Seelanii. The Seraphina Collection includes the luscious Ruby Lingerie Set and Garter Belt with the option of thigh straps. Bra, thong, and garter belt are painstakingly crafted of red lace appliqués on red tulle. Straps are custom-dyed, closures are gold-toned. To wear such a matching three-piece, in red, would be another lingerie milestone.
Diane F. also remembers the days of department stores, this time in San Francisco. The lingerie department at SF’s City of Paris was a dream of little drawers. And from them emerged Diane’s collection of beautiful chemises and slips. She still has them. Perhaps her favorite purchases were the beautiful robes that she would take along on romantic vacations. Why not combine the concept with a matching chemise and coverup with the new Lily Pink Velvet Collection from Emma Harris? The velvet is interspersed with sheer lace panels that will spice up any getaway.
Kate B. says, “My first lingerie experience happened at my neighbor’s shop: Jane’s Vanity. It was a piece that I still own. We are lucky here in the land of “patagucci” to have JV. To make us all feel beautiful and luxurious. And not wear fleece all the time. Cashmere, Baby!” Kate might also approve of the new Bianca Lingerie Set, carefully crafted from exquisite (and sheer!) French lace the color of crushed berries. (Although the downtown JV shop is now a sweet memory, you can, of course, see the Bianca online!)
Splashy silk pajamas are a great first step toward creating a real lingerie collection. Many ways to wear pajamas: mixed, matched, or unbuttoned to show a gorgeous bra. Karma on the Rocks offers a spectacular assortment of colorful pajama prints. And Temperley London thrills with slinky Aphrodite Pajama in an amusing scarf print on black background.
It’s never too early or too late to be transformed by Jane’s Vanity!
