Your Velvet Holidays

There’s velvet…and then there’s silk velvet. See and feel the difference this season, in lustrous silk velvet garments from Jane’s Vanity.

Once upon a time, velvet, though regal, was a bit stiff. Its surface was scratchy, its colors dull. Enter silk velvet. Silk’s addition to the weaving process allows a lighter and more breathable velvet. It drapes like liquid, and its glow lights up your face.

Karma on the Rocks offers two smoldering silk velvet robes. Called Nikko, which means sunlight or sunshine in Japanese, one is a long golden column, the other a knee-length burgundy red. Both feature gingko-leaf embroidery at shawl collar, cuffs, and back. Karma frames these sumptuous robes with matching silk charmeuse pajamas. The Tokyo Kazari Gold Pajama is crafted from silk-grey silk imprinted with gingko leaves in shades of gold and khaki. The Isa Kazari Aqua Pajama displays a teal-colored gingko design on a field of burgundy red.

Christine Vancouver captivates with her new Fabergé collection. Its silk velvet pieces recall The Jazz Age with their slinky shapes and use of devoré, or “burn-out,” embellishment. This chemical process on velvet was invented at the turn of the 20th century to simulate lace. But the resulting risqué look created a sensation all its own. We still love it. And swoon over these see-through Fabergé pieces in chartreuse green silk velvet “burned-out” in floral designs of icy-blue. There is the Fabergé Moss Velvet Gown, with draped cowl at neckline and low back, the easy Fabergé Moss Velvet Robe, and the Fabergé Moss Velvet Pant. Christine thoughtfully adds two more pieces in luscious chartreuse silk charmeuse: a glamorous spaghetti-strap Gown that is bias-cut through the body, and a loose-fitting cropped Top. This seductive wardrobe will take us nicely into spring.

The allure of silk velvet is perfect for the holidays, especially in a raspberry pink shade that Gilda & Pearl have selected for their “Frankly My Dear” collection. Festive yet nostalgic, the pieces indeed recall Old Hollywood and its screen passions. Choose the Slip Dress in midi length, the classic Pajama with a slightly cropped trouser, or the Midi Robe that is glamorous enough to wear out (for a framboise cocktail?).

As winter settles in, brighten your features–and long nights–with incandescent silk velvet from Jane’s Vanity.
