The Post Office Test
If I’m in doubt about an outfit combo, I wear it to the Post Office. My local USPS is a safe place to experiment. While no one comments on my appearance in the line for stamps, somehow I sense either admiration or careful eye aversion. Often I head gratefully home to add, subtract, start over. Saved by the Post Office.
Betty Halbreich, personal shopper extraordinaire for Bergdorf Goodman, counsels us to play with our new clothes before even hanging them in the closet. We might not have time when we are scrambling to get dressed on a busy morning. Instead, at our leisure, Halbreich suggests we take a few enjoyable moments to check closet and dresser for possible items to wear with our new things. And that includes the joy of accessories. “If you don’t experiment now, you probably never will.”
Jane’s Vanity beautiful lingerie is a case in point. The possibilities for wearing it are quite interesting. And just require a little time and imagination. And, perhaps, a test drive to:
The Library: The video bin beckons as you drift through the stacks in your British Museum Slouch Kimono from Klements. Cute over a navy striped tee, cropped chinos, and Olivia Van Halle’s Amity Sleep Mask worn as a headband. Are you being checked out at the circulation desk?
The Wine Bar: Make an entrance in a Klements Feast Patti Dress with your jean jacket slung over your shoulder. Fade to a corner booth and order a drink to match your ensemble. Try The Spritz, favorite orangey drink of Venice: a concoction of Aperol liqueur, white wine, and sparkling mineral water. To your wardrobe, just say “Saluti!”
Versailles or local equivalent: A trenchcoat needn’t hide your Olivia Van Halle Poppy Nightshirt, casually belted over white jeans, offset by sporty espadrilles. Admire the vistas. Seek inspiration from the statuary. Strike a pose.
Salsa dance lesson: Back row, for sure. Can your clothing keep up? Akiko Ogawa’s Scandalous Gold Slip says “Yes!” Later, dance into the night wrapped in Christine Vancouver’s Gatsby Patterned Velvet Kimono.
No regrets for the bold and beautiful wardrobe staples from Jane’s Vanity!
