Playlist

Whether we’re happy or sad about love, only the radio seems to get it. Passion, sorrow, joy: it’s all there in the playlist. Torchy lyrics speak to our souls; soaring melodies become our theme songs. Jane’s Vanity dresses us to sing along.

Cocooned in our Edo Crane Silk Slip from Karma on the Rocks, the first morning sound we hear is the soothing early show on our local KMHD Jazz station (FM 89.1). Somewhere between six and seven, every single weekday, we’ll hear a song that was surely selected as a wake-up for two. KMHD knows how to start our day off right.

When puttering around in the kitchen, we like to hear the old standards from the 40s. Up to our elbows in suds, we commune with Frank Sinatra, feeling every nuance of the story of love. Our attire? Emma Harris’s Clara Vintage Rose Camisole Set with its swingy tap pants.

Soul and R&B provide the deep-down release lovers long for. We can dance it off wearing as little as possible, perhaps the purply Clara Camisole Set from Emma Harris with its tiny briefs to match. Or the bosomy Danainae Lingerie Set from Karolina Laskowska in pink Chantilly Lace and ultra-soft textural trim in colors of orange and pink.

Decades of love roll by at Saturday night’s radio dance party with friends. We “remember when” in Gilda & Pearl’s Kitty Marabou cocktail pajamas in fuchsia. If we feel like removing the top, we will be wearing Freolic London’s Fuchsia and Lemon Lingerie Set underneath.

And sometimes we need to be alone, in the dark taproom of our souls. Then the radio is there for us, as Cole Porter noted: day and night, night and day. We slip into the Lili Long Robe from Gilda & Pearl, and feel ourselves transported not only by silk, but also by sound.

JV dresses us for love, in all of its glory. And wonders what might be playing next on our favorite station.
