Our Fashion Voices

“Fashion is what time looks like…the very texture and weave of life.” So begins the 2012 memoir of Cuban-American fashion designer Isabel Toledo, The Roots of Style. Toledo left us much too soon, in 2019. But her spirit lives on, whispering a message that Jane’s Vanity carries on: find your own fashion voice.
Toledo encouraged her readers to think for themselves and dress for their own mind and moods. That is also the ethos of JV: to follow our hearts. And to love. Toledo writes in her introduction that love is often the missing link in life. “Once that element flowers, the rest of life seems to flow along.” Here are a few JV pieces that might inspire both your love and your voice.

Karolina Laskoswka lingerie sets are all about love: both the designer’s passion for beauty and your own desire for the ultimate in undergarments. JV offers a unique collection of Laskoswka’s creativity and craft. Let your summer voice be the Helianthus Balconette Set in luscious caramel-colored lace. For fall, the long-line Cassiopeia Emerald Set in hand-dyed green and silver French Lace.

Toledo wrote that fashion is a form of language, a potent tool for communication. It can reveal all of life and society in its tucks and seams. In addition, through our choices in color, texture, materials, and cut, our clothing allows us to create a portrait of our inner life, our hidden dreams, desires, and motivations. Speak to the world this summer in the Greenfinch MIdi Dress, by another talented designer: Zoelle Bybs. On approach, it is a demure boatneck skimmer. From behind, it showcases your spine with a deep open V that disappears into an invisible zipper. Its pastel green floral front is echoed by a tiny geometric print in back. Casual, sporty, graceful, playful…does it describe you?

Jane’s Vanity wishes you a happy summer, curled up with a wonderful book such as this love letter to life by Isabel Toledo.
